SUMMARY:Storytime with Sara Yessenow!
DESCRIPTION:When something sad happens\, Taylor doesn’t know where to turn. All the animals are sure they have the answer. The chicken wants to talk it out\, but Taylor doesn’t feel like chatting. Then the rabbit arrives. All the rabbit does is listen . . . which is just what Taylor needs. SUMMARY:Jason Logan for How to Be a Color Wizard
DESCRIPTION:In a bountiful book combining art and chemistry\, a celebrated ink maker invites kids to become color wizards—by foraging and transforming natural materials to make their own paint and artistic creations. \nIn this book you will find secret recipes\, magic formulas\, and wild experiments that will delight your friends\, intimidate your enemies\, and turn you into a color wizard.\n\nWhat colors might await in a leafy forest\, a berry-stained back alley\, a seaweedy beach\, or even the dark corners of an ordinary fridge? With this book as a guide\, curious young wizards can make natural confetti\, unlock the hidden color power inside a leaf\, and craft a paintbrush wand. They’ll brew magic potions from beets and acorn caps to produce their own colors\, from the darkest black to the palest pink to invisible ink\, then share their discoveries with friends\, family\, and the whole color-hungry human race. With whimsy and infectious enthusiasm\, master ink maker Jason Logan explains the science of color while presenting “quests\,” recipes\, and hands-on activities using materials kids can find in their own homes and neighborhoods. Featuring both photographs and the author’s own gorgeous homemade-ink illustrations\, How to Be a Color Wizard is an ideal blend of art and science—plus a little bit of magic. \n\n\nJason Logan is the founder of the Toronto Ink Company (maker of ink for Margaret Atwood\, Yoko Ono\, Michael Ondaatje\, and Harley-Davidson). His art has been exhibited in New York City\, Los Angeles\, Toronto\, and the Yukon\, and his inkmaking revolution has been featured by the New York Times\, Martha Stewart\, the New Yorker\, and NPR. His book for grown-up wizards\, Make Ink: A Forager’s Guide to Natural Inkmaking\, was included in the Guardian’s Best Books of 2018 roundup. The Colour of Ink\, a film featuring his work\, was a special selection at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022. He can be found picking up rusty nails and scavenging for berries on the streets of Toronto\, where he lives with his family and a giant dog known as Baby. \nThis is an in-person event. Seated capacity at People’s Book is 50 patrons. Standing room is an option. All events are first-come\, first-served seating. Accessible seating is always available.

SUMMARY:Haunted Storytime!
DESCRIPTION:Join bookseller Mylo for a read aloud of new and (just a little bit) spooky books! After the reading\, help us design more ghosts for our lonely lil’ “People’s Boo!” \nAbout the book: From the bestselling creator of Not Quite Narwhal comes a delightfully spooky story about an old house who wants to be a home…even if her new family isn’t what she expected. House has a problem. She’s a little spooky. She’s a little cobwebby. Oh\, no! What if she’s haunted? She’s not sure\, but…her hinges creak. Her pipes bang. And on windy days\, the branches scritch-scratch at her windows. She tries to hold her breath and be as still as possible. If she’s on her best behavior\, maybe a family will move in. How will House ever find a family that doesn’t mind being haunted?

SUMMARY:Storytime: Brenna Maloney for Good Dad Diego
DESCRIPTION:Join author Brenna Maloney for a Sunday morning storytime!\n\n\nIn this humorous celebration of fatherhood\, an irresistibly adorable (and real!) pug shows what it takes to be a good dad. \nDiego is a dog\, but he has one of the toughest jobs in the world. Is he a ninja? Nope. Is he a superhero? Nope. Is he a king or a police officer or the president? Nope. Nope. Nope. Diego is a DAD. And that requires the patience and fortitude of all of these positions combined . . . as Diego–an adorable pug–demonstrates in this laugh-out-loud photographic picture book. Admonitions and chores may be somewhat different for dogs: “Stop chewing on the furniture!” “Don’t eat cat barf!” But Diego does everything out of love . . . and we get to see the objects of his affection at the end of the story: pug puppies!! \n\n\n\nBrenna Maloney is an award-winning writer and editor with more than 30 years’ publishing experience. A long-time reporter and editor for The Washington Post and former managing editor of National Geographic’s Explorer magazine\, Brenna currently teaches and directs the journalism program at George Mason University in Fairfax\, Va. She has written more than 30 books for young readers.\n\n\nThis is an in-person event. Seated capacity at People’s Book is 50 patrons. Standing room is an option. SUMMARY:Storytime: Susan Stockdale for Don't Eat the Cleaners!
DESCRIPTION:Join author Susan Stockdale for a Sunday morning storytime! \nEven though they live underwater\, ocean animals have to get clean\, just like we do. But they get it done in a weird and wonderful way. \nJust like you have to take a bath and brush your teeth\, fish also have basic hygiene practices they have to follow every day. But their approach to cleanliness doesn’t just take place underwater—it involves a network of larger ocean animals washed by small fish and shrimp called cleaners at coral reef cleaning stations around the world. \nCleaners remove pesky parasites from their customers in return for a tasty meal\, serving up to 2000 customers a day. Sea turtles\, manta rays\, and even sharks line up for a scrubbing in the busy stations\, just like at a car wash. Some customers return 100 times daily. And they must remember the important rule if they want a washing by the cleaning crew: DON’T EAT THE CLEANERS! \nReaders will delight in this colorful exploration of the remarkable teamwork among coral reef residents. Back matter features images of all 30 animals and a fun matching game: can you find the animals in the book? \nIn her latest nonfiction work\, award-winning author-illustrator Susan Stockdale once again proves her talent in creating engaging and entertaining nature books for young readers. \nSusan Stockdale has written and illustrated 11 acclaimed children’s picture books including Bring On the Birds\, Stripes of All Types and Fabulous Fishes. Her books have won awards from the American Library Association\, Parents’ Choice\, the National Science Teachers Association\, and Bank Street College of Education. Her vibrant illustrations and engaging text elicits praise. The Washington Post wrote\, “If the paintings are the feast\, Stockdale’s words are the dessert.” Learn more at susanstockdale.com. \nThis is an in-person event. Seated capacity at People’s Book is 50 patrons. Standing room is an option. All events are first-come\, first-served seating. Accessible seating is always available

SUMMARY:Storytime with Christine Kessides: A Tail Tale
DESCRIPTION:Wally is starting a new school-will he be able to make friends? \nWhen Wally’s new classmates aren’t so nice\, he decides that maybe he doesn’t want to fit in with them after all. One day after school\, he meets the Tailor\, a magical figure who creates tails for all the animals. As Wally tries on different tails\, he also meets a snake who shows Wally a new perspective on friendship. \nDespite the reality of how hard it can be to make new friends in a new place\, this whimsical\, clever story shows us that everyone has something to offer-and that often\, empathy is the best cure for unkindness. \nChristine Kessides first imagined A Tail Tale when she was a student\, but didn’t publish it until her first grandson arrived—who loves a good story and\, coincidentally\, looks like Wally.   Christine is also the author of Magda\, Standing\, an award-winning Young Adult historical novel.  She lives in Maryland with her husband and spends as much time as possible with her four children\, two grandsons\, and granddogs around the country. \n  \nIf you’d like to purchase this title online and still support People’s Book\, follow the link below: \nhttps://bookshop.org/a/88548/9798891324152 \nThis is an in-person event. SUMMARY:Storytime: Karen Leggett Abouraya for Zamzam
DESCRIPTION:Zamzam divides his time between his grandparents’ homes in New York City in the United States and Alexandria\, Egypt. While the two places are different in terms of sights\, sounds\, and flavors\, they share much in common. But the most important thing they share is family love. \nReaders are introduced to Zamzam\, a young boy who enjoys life with family spread out over thousands of miles. In New York City in the United States\, he enjoys playing his guitar while his grandparents clap along\, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with his grandmother\, and going to Central Park with his grandparents to ride the carousel. \nIn Alexandria\, Egypt\, Zamzam sleeps in the same room his gedu (grandpa) slept in as a child\, goes to the market with his gedetti (grandma) to buy fresh food\, and plays his tabla (drum) for his grandparents. \nZamzam experiences big and little differences with his grandparents in each country but realizes that the most important of these experiences seem the same. His interactions with Grandma and Grandpa in New York City and Gedu and Gedetti in Alexandria are all based on his strong love for his grandparents and the different cultures to which they expose Zamzam. \n  \nKaren Leggett Abouraya\, an award-winning broadcast journalist in Washington\, D.C.\, has reviewed children’s books for The New York Times and Washington Parent and is an active member of the Children’s Book Guild of Washington\, D.C. Her first picture book\, Hands Around the Library: Protecting Egypt’s Treasured Books\, won multiple awards\, including the Arab American Book Award and Children’s Africana Book Award. Karen\, her Egyptian husband\, and their two children have traveled frequently to Egypt\, so it is not surprising that Egypt is the focus of her children’s books\, including Zamzam. \nIf you’d like to purchase this title online and still support People’s Book\, follow the link below: \nhttps://bookshop.org/a/88548/9781478881957 \nThis is an in-person event. SUMMARY:Suzanne Lang for "Grumpy Monkey Mom for a Day"
DESCRIPTION:When Jim Panzee offers to step in as a temporary mom\, he thinks\, It will be fun. How hard can it be? But when he’s immediately bombarded with a chorus of needs such as “Carry me\, mommy\,” and “I’m hungry.” Grumpy Monkey doesn’t know what to do first. \nHe tries his best but when the baby animals start falling out of a tree\, Jim is completely overwhelmed. That’s when his mom swings down\, picks him up\, calms the baby animals\, and makes everything right. Jim understands and appreciates the power of parenting and the unconditional love his mom has for him. \n  \nSuzanne Lang is the author of the New York Times bestselling Grumpy Monkey books as well as several other titles. When she’s not writing books\, Suzanne writes for animation. When she’s not doing that\, she hangs out with her very funny kids\, feeds her many pets\, and tries (but usually fails) to take a nap! \nIf you’d like to purchase this title online and still support People’s Book\, follow the link below: \nhttps://bookshop.org/a/88548/9780593709313 \nThis is an in-person event.
