Join us for a Sunday morning children’s storytime!
A lyrical and affirming picture book for Black girls, in which their elders imagine their bright futures and send positive words to instill them with confidence.
With poetic text and exuberant artwork, this book is a wish from one generation to the next: that every Black girl knows and celebrates her own worth.Breathe in your truth. And never let anyone dull your shine.

Taylor Darks is a sociology doctoral candidate at Florida State University. She writes stories that she would have loved as a child in hopes of inspiring the next generation of Black girls to feel confident in themselves. When she’s not writing or studying, she’s probably dreaming about Skyline Chili from her hometown of Cincinnati or getting inspired by the antics of her furry sidekicks Gremlin, Luna, and Nonna. You can visit her online at taylordarks.com, and order a copy of Be, Black Girl, Be on Bookshop.org.
This is an in-person event. Seated capacity at People’s Book is 50 patrons. Standing room is an option. All events are first-come, first-served seating. Accessible seating is always available.
