Mei & Kaili Powers for “It’s Not That Spicy”

April 28, 2024 @ 9:30 am - 10:00 am
Free

While there are many wonderful books that illustrate how to eat right, where food comes from, and how it’s grown, not many introduce children to spicy food. Instead, children are often taught at a young age to avoid, and even fear, spicy foods. It’s Not That Spicy appeals to foodie families and families from cultures where spicy food is celebrated. Through Kaili’s adventures exploring new spicy condiments and cuisines from Asia (like pho and sriracha, sushi and wasabi, and bibimbap and gochujang), children learn to be open-minded, to be brave, and to try new things—important life lessons that extend beyond food. If you are looking for a book that will help expand your kids’ palates and worldview by introducing them to different foods, spices, and cultures, then this is the book for you!

The mother-daughter duo of Mei and Kaili Powers have been making up stories together since the day Kaili was born. Today Kaili takes the lead in dreaming up the cast of characters and their adventures under the sea, to lakeside mountains, and across the galaxy. They spend their free time cooking, drawing, and trying new hot sauces with their family–one drop at a time.
